Peter Vikingstad Hermansson

Peter Hermansson (1975). Artist living in Jämshög, Sweden. Hermansson works within the Swedish narrative glass tradition, and with his background in graffiti, he brings a graphically expressive quality to the medium. After studying at the Orrefors National Glass School, he undertook a four-year apprenticeship to deepen his skills and master the craft. Over the past twenty years, he has successfully refined the traditional Swedish Graal technique—an intricate, image- based process developed at Orrefors Glassworks in the early 1900s.

This time-consuming method involves multiple stages of coloring, cooling, and reheating to create richly detailed imagery. Peter’s visual world explores the inner conflicts of the human condition, blending soft pastels with surreal narratives drawn from the psyche’s inner landscape. His vessels embody tales from the subconscious, dreams, and the realm of symbols and myths, combining technical virtuosity with poetic creativity.

Storytelling is central to Hermansson’s work and is deeply intertwined with his highly advanced craftsmanship. He has succeeded in scaling up the Graal objects and forging a distinctly contemporary style, reinforcing the profound connection between craft and fine art.
