Joanna Manousis

British American artist Joanna Manousis creates sculptural objects and installations in glass, mirrors, and mixed media that explore perception, memory, human emotion, and the passage of time. Through the transformative properties of light, reflection, and material, her work examines the relationship between our internal experiences and the worlds we construct around us.

Manousis holds a PhD from the University of Sunderland, where her research at the National Glass Centre investigated the creative potential of dimensional mirrors within cast glass and their application within contemporary visual art practice. She also holds an MFA in Sculpture from Alfred University, New York, and a BFA in Glass from the University of Wolverhampton, England.

Her work has been nominated for the Louis Comfort Tiffany Foundation Award and the Bombay Sapphire Award for Excellence in Glass, and she is the recipient of the Margaret M. Mead Award and the Hans Godo Frabel Award. She has participated in internationally recognised residency programmes including the Toledo Museum of Art, the Museum of Arts and Design, the Corning Museum of Glass, and Cité Internationale des Arts, Paris. Her work has been exhibited internationally at Design Miami, Art Basel Basel, FOG Art + Design, Glasmuseet Ebeltoft, and the British Glass Biennale. Manousis has worked, studied, and taught in Japan, the United Kingdom, the United States, and Australia.
