Tobias Møhl | Intentionally Accidental | Oct 2024

09/25/2024 By Deborah Adler
Traver Gallery is excited to present Intentionally Accidental, a solo exhibition featuring the latest works by renowned Danish glass artist Tobias Møhl. Join us for the opening reception on Thursday, October 3rd, from 5–8 pm. The artist will be in attendance.

Møhl is a modernist glassmaker renowned for his minimalist, ethereal forms, subtle use of color, and exceptional craftsmanship. His glassmaking career has been shaped by his connection to the Italian Maestro, Lino Tagliapietra, whose influence has been pivotal in Møhl’s artistic development. However, rather than simply replicating traditional these Venetian methods, Møhl reinterprets them through a distinctly Scandinavian lens, achieving a delicate balance between tradition and innovation. His work embodies simplicity, precision, and a relentless pursuit of refinement.

This exhibition showcases Møhl’s newest collections of intricately decorated bowls and lightboxes, each containing tall, silhouetted vessels that appear weightless. Adorned with delicate, lacy line work reminiscent of spontaneous line drawings, these vessels are created using traditional Venetian cane techniques. The swirling, overlapping patterns evoke a graceful sense of fluidity, balance, and form, demonstrating Møhl’s meticulous attention to detail, refinement, and dedication to his craft. Complementing these works is an impressive new lighting installation composed of multiple glass components, adding an additional dimension of light and form to this elegant and visually dynamic exhibition.

Møhl’s glasswork has been widely recognized and is included in prestigious collections such as The Corning Museum of Glass (NY), Memorial Art Gallery (NY), Museum of Arts and Design (NY), Museum für Kunst und Gewerbe (Germany), and The Danish Museum of Decorative Art (Denmark), as well as numerous public and private collections across Europe and the United States. He continues to work and teach in his studio in Ebeltoft, Denmark.

We are thrilled to share this newest body of work with you and invite you to celebrate with us at the Opening Reception on Thursday, October 3rd from 5–8 pm.
