DAVE WALTERS
not so FUNHOUSE
June 3 –26
Traver Gallery is excited to welcome, Seattle-based artist David Walters back to the gallery for this month’s exhibition titled not so FUNHOUSE. This exhibition is a visual account of and response to historical moments and events that took place over the past four years. From afar, the works in this exhibition seem playfully illustrative and lighthearted, but as the viewer looks closer, the details reveal themselves, and Walter’s quiet, deep, dark, and polarizing stories unfold. This body of work is an honest and direct look into the mind of the artist. We invite you all into the not so FUNHOUSE and hope you enjoy the ride.
David’s sculptures and drawings focus on the narrative, integrating blown form and image toward a common theme. Using familiar children’s stories and folktales as primary source material, David deftly weaves personal history, anecdotes, and current politics, into these cautionary tales, giving them renewed intimacy and relevance.
