Richard Royal

Through his popular Aperture sculptures, Richard Royal explores concepts of purity and connectedness, while pushing the physical limits of glass working.

Each of these pieces begins with a round, core element. This central sphere is surrounded by expressive, fluidly formed lengths of solid-sculpted glass, which are attached hot to the central element and to each other. In Royal’s newest work, colorful fused glass panels are placed within each of the exterior sections creating intricate patterns that run the length of each piece. This new interior patterning takes the artist’s original goal – to represent a window or opening that reveals one’s innermost soul – to the next level.
