Nick Mount

The forms of Nick Mount’s Scent Bottles have varied greatly since he began working on the series over ten years ago, though they have all been composed of the same basic parts. Each piece in this ongoing series has a foot, joining elements, a vessel, a neck, a lip, and a stopper – all the components of a traditional perfume bottle.

Mount selected the form as the central motif of his work for several reasons: he recognized its relevance to the history and traditions of glass working, as well as the endless opportunities for creative exploration the seemingly infinite variations on the form could provide. But most importantly, he was attracted to the way it resonated with his belief that a well conceived, crafted, and resolved object resembles its maker, retaining a trace of their “scent.”
