Lynn Whitford

Lynn Whitford’s nontraditional, three-dimensional portraits examine the relationship between an object and its image. The Slow Foods series are the result of Whitford’s careful observation of specific, individual fruits and vegetables. Thes Slow Foods sculptures are executed entirely in pewter, the malleability of which makes it especially well suited for representing complex, organic forms. These sculptures are about seeing the complexity of objects we often take for granted.

Whitford’s Odes to Painters and Mystery of Science pieces employ simple, generic forms as stand-ins for individuals. An ongoing series through which Whitford pays homage to historical artists whose work has been important to her artistic development throughout the years, the Odes are composed of configurations of simple bottle forms, grouped to create implied interactions.
