Alex Gabriel Bernstein

Aiex Bernstein’s luminous cast, carved and polished glass sculptures are reminiscent of natural and organic forms, evoking images of flowing water, ice crystals, mountain peaks and jagged canyons.

Recently, Alex has been focusing on two distinct bodies of work, united by an exploration of surface texture and the qualities of opacity and translucence these often contrasting textures bring forth within the glass. The first series encapsulates the energy of growth and expansion: these forms display an active quality, and create a feeling of outward motion. The second series is more introspective: the artist has created windows into each piece, which contain quiet, yet colorful surprises.
